ABC Electric was founded in 1932 by Arthur Badley Whitmer and his wife Carolyn. In the beginning, AB performed electrical contracting and sold appliances from a store close to 23rd and “O”. AB believed strongly in treating people the way he wanted to be treated and his philosophy continues to hold true to this day at ABC Electric.

After working with AB for a number of years, AB’s son Arthur J. took the reins of the company in 1950, establishing ABC Electric as the Lincoln area's preferred residential, commercial and industrial contractor. AJ was later joined by his own son William (Bill) Whitmer, who graduated from UNL with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1959.

With the onset of an economic downturn in the 1980’s and high interest rates, work was not easy to come by. This was further complicated by Arthur’s death in 1984, resulting in Bill being elevated to president.

John Whitmer, AB’s great-grandson, has worked with ABC since graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.S. in Construction Management in 1988; he is the fourth generation within the family business. Bill passed his duties on to John in 2002.

Having been associated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers since AB Whitmer’s membership in Local Union 265 in November of 1917, ABC has nearly a century of honest, hard work experience. With the ability to provide residential, commercial and industrial wiring to fiber optics and underground/overhead high voltage power transmission, ABC has cemented itself as the full-service electrical repair contractor the Lincoln area can trust.
